The 16mm SHA from Dell’Orto

This carburetor can be used with many of the popular pocketbike engines in the marketplace. Dell’Orto has been making carburetors ever since there was a piston driven engine; the company has almost 100 years of experience producing simple and exotic fuel management systems. Capitol USA Minimoto & Advanced MotoSports recommend Dell’Orto carburetors for all hi-performance pocketbike engines.

The SHA series of carburetors distinguishes itself by its simplicity of operation and maintenance. The SHA comes in sizes from 12mm to 16mm. It is a high quality, low maintenance, fiddle-free carburetor. There are a minimum of moving parts; venture slide, float bowl and the choke lever are the only parts the physically move. The SHA series carburetors are easy to tune with a simple swap of a main jet within the float bowl assembly. Jets are readily available in all sizes.

Installation is simple and straightforward since the Chinese did us a favor and copied the 14mm SHA. The 16mm simply swaps in without any modifications. C1 owners can continue to use the stock air filter, stock throttle cable, stock intake manifold, stock fuel line; no extra parts required.

The 16mm SHA comes with a 90 degree throttle sleeve, we suggest everyone to swap over the 45 degree throttle sleeve from the stock 14mm carburetor. The throttle sleeves on both carburetors simply unscrew out of the black top. This takes perhaps 30 seconds.

To prepare the 16mm SHA - remove black air box cover, internal metal screen, and retainer clip and discard these parts.

The carburetor comes stock with an 82 main jet, I found this to be spot on out of the box. The color of the spark plug is a nice rusty, dry brown. The proper jetting range depending upon temp. / weather conditions should be from 82 to 88.
